Eye examinations

At Hendry Opticians, our comprehensive eye examinations do more than check your vision. Using advanced technology and expert clinical care, we assess the overall health of your eyes, detect early signs of eye conditions, and provide personalised advice to help you maintain clear, comfortable vision for years to come.

Eye examinations at Hendry Opticians

At Hendry Opticians, we believe that caring for your eyes should feel reassuring, comfortable and part of everyday life. As a long-standing part of the Linlithgow community, we take the time to understand your vision, your lifestyle and your needs.

Your routine eye examination is fully covered by the NHS in Scotland, and it gives us the chance to look after the long-term health of your eyes, not just your prescription. Whether you’re visiting us for the first time or have been with us for years, we’re here to provide attentive care for you and your family.

A thorough, personal eye examination

Every patient receives an unhurried appointment where we check your vision, eye health and overall comfort. With a team of highly trained optometrists, including three with Independent Prescribing qualifications, you’re always in safe hands.

We welcome patients of all ages, from young children through to adults, and tailor each eye examination to suit your individual needs.

Advanced technology for complete peace of mind

Our practice was fully refitted in 2024, allowing us to bring the latest technology to Linlithgow. These advanced tools help us detect changes earlier, explain your results clearly and keep a close watch on your eye health over time.

OCT scans

An OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan lets us look beneath the surface of your eye, giving a detailed picture of the layers that can’t be seen with standard equipment. It helps us spot early signs of conditions such as glaucoma and macular changes long before you notice any symptoms. This insight means we can protect your vision with confidence.

MYAH for Dry Eye Assessment

Dry eye is increasingly common, especially for patients in their 40s and beyond. Our MYAH technology allows us to examine the tear film and eyelid function in detail, helping us understand what’s causing your discomfort. From there, we guide you towards the right treatment so your eyes feel more comfortable day to day.

AVA precision dispensing

When it comes to your glasses, accuracy matters. Essilor's Advanced Vision Accuracy (AVA) technology allows us to measure your prescription to an incredibly fine level, helping your lenses feel more natural and tailored to you. This system is unique to our practice and ensures your eyewear performs at its very best.

Emergency eyecare when you need us

If you experience sudden changes to your vision, flashes, floaters, pain, redness or anything that feels out of the ordinary, our Independent Prescriber-qualified optometrists are trained to assess and treat a wide range of urgent eye conditions. We provide same-day emergency appointments whenever possible, ensuring you get the right care at the right time.

"I have been a client of Hendry Opticians for a number of years, and now my daughter is also seeing them. They were amazing with her when she decided she wanted to get contact lenses and Freida took so much time and care to making sure my daughter knew exactly what to do. They are fantastic and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my eyes."
